Giddiness?

For some reason this has made me far happier that is should make a normal person. I was out putting pine needles around my plants in the garden when I found this:

This is the first Roma tomato to appear on my plants. The thing probably started growing before I put the plants in the ground. Now I'm gonna have to figure out how I want to stake the plants up

  • I was just reading that since the wire basket thingies are really too small for tomato plants, they recommend using the 6" welded wire mesh and just clip off the bottom horizontal wire. Then it will stick in the ground, and you can make it big enough for the plant to grow in.

I think they were saying 18" diameter for an average plant. And added bonus is that the W.W.M. is cheap.

Who knew I would have any gardening advise? Have fun with those tomatoes man.

  • You know that is exactly what I have been looking for. I can't find any 6" WWM that isn't like 8 gage concrete reinforcing mat though. And all of that is rusty. I did find some inexpensive, $1 a yard, 5 foot tall 6" square fencing. The only thing is that I can't find it in anything less than 330' rolls. I don't need nearly that much, nor do I want to spend $110 on my tomato cages. I'm still looking, but I'm gonna have to do something shortly. Right now I'm gonna take the dog pen apart and use that fencing for the cukes.

I really need to post pictures of my maters. They're taking over the porch.
