Storm of the Giga-annum
I just finished reading Sunstorm by Arthur C. Clarke and Stephen Baxter. It’s the second book in the “A Time Odyssey” series of books. Look at the review of the first book if it interests you. Otherwise follow along as I ramble a bit.
Sunstorm begins right after Bisesa Dutt returns to Earth, the day after she was taken June 9, 2037. Five years have passed for her, but no time has passed for her home. That day an enormous solar mass ejection causes havoc on the Earth’s systems. It destroys power systems, electronics, pipelines, satellites, etc. In a world dominated by power, electronics, constant communication, and a worldwide AI called Aristotle the effect is disastrous. The one scientific genius that predicted the event bears the bad news that another event will occur in 5 years. That coming explosion of energy will make the July 9th event look like a burp. The Sun is expected to expend a year’s worth of energy in one day, sweeping away the Earth’s atmosphere and sterilizing the surface tens of meters deep. Can the Earth and Moon combine forces to save the Earth from impending doom? And what caused the flaw in the Sun that’s causing all the problems. Bisesa thinks the First Born may have a great deal to do with it.
This is more than a fitting sequel to the first book. It’s interesting cause the books both have action, adventure, and exploration galore, but they both have a different feel because of the differences in the worlds on which they occur. In some ways the series reminds me of the Rama series of books by Clarke. Man I want to read the Space Odyssey Series.

And one to grow on
I’ve been busy recently, and really haven’t had much to write about. This week I’ve been spending quite a bit of time working on a project that had a hard deadline. Well that project will probably be done today. That’s nice, because today is also the anniversary of something that happened a long time ago. Longer that it feels in fact. My where does the time go.
Better Dying Through Chemistry
Well earlier this week My brother and I went to see the movie “Crank”. It’s less than an hour and a half, but it’s pretty much action filled. Plus it has some funny parts thrown in for good measure. Jason Statham runs around trying to stay alive long enough to get some revenge. The action starts pretty fast and keeps up for most of the film. The camera techniques and visual effects really give the movie that little push to make it more interesting. At first I was afraid they were going to be annoying, but they settled down to an enjoyable level. I would say this is a good movie for an afternoon matinee when you are in the mood for fast paced.

Soulful thoughts
You Are a Prophet Soul |
You are a gentle soul, with good intentions toward everyone. Selfless and kind, you have great faith in people. Sometimes this faith can lead to disappoinment in the long run. No matter what, you deal with everything in a calm and balanced way. You are a good interpreter, very sensitive, intuitive, caring, and gentle. Concerned about the world, you are good at predicting people's feelings. A seeker of wisdom, you are a life long learner looking for purpose and meaning. You are a great thinker and communicator, but not necessarily a doer. Souls you are most compatible with: Bright Star Soul and Dreaming Soul |
